A Detox Diet for Health and Weight Loss

Our food, water and air contain an astounding number of chemicals, some of which are toxic to our body even in small amounts, and most of which are strenuous on our body’s natural purifying function. As well as doing several body detoxes a year, you can maintain a fit and healthy body by nudging your regular routine diet toward a cleansing diet. In addition to providing year round body detoxification, a cleansing diet will help you maintain better health, higher energy and mood, and a healthy weight. Many people have reported lasting weight loss with a detox diet.

The easiest way to switch over to a cleansing diet for health and weight loss is to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables and reduce your consumption of fatty foods, processed foods and sugary foods. Here are several ideas for what to include in your cleansing diet:

2-5 servings of fresh fruit daily. Limit bananas and dried fruits. Dried fruits should be soaked overnight.

2 raw salads each day, one at lunch and another at dinner.

2 servings of chicken (not fried!), fish or tofu for your protein. Lean red meat now and then.

A glass of vegetable juice once a day if possible. Ideal veggies are cucumber, celery, carrot, beets and parsley. If you don’t have time or equipment to juice vegetable juice at home, purchase it fresh in a big quantity, part it into 2 oz portions and freeze for future use.

Sea vegetables (seaweed) every day. Granular dulse and kelp are simple to use. They can be used as a salt substitute.

And, it goes without saying, drink more water. Try to increase your consumption to a gallon a day of fresh, filtered water. Some of this can include unsweetened herbal tea. No flavored, sweetened drinks. Sodas and bottled juices do not hydrate, they just add more substances to your body.
