Getting a baby to adjust to a normal sleep schedule can be a challenge for new parents. Here are some tips so that both you and your baby can get a good night’s rest.

1) Establish a routine - A kiss good night or stroking the baby before sleep can calm the child, or bathing and cleaning the child before bed time. Make sure to repeat these patterns. Once the baby becomes familiar with this routine, they will know that it is time to sleep. Also, make sure the baby sleeps in the same place and in the same conditions as much as possible.

2) Try lullaby music - Lullaby music can calm the child as can white noise CD’s. The sound of a vacuum cleaner is also known to have a soothing effect.

3) Make sure that the room temperature is not too hot or cold and that the baby is in a location that is away from any noise or distractions that may cause the baby to awaken.

4) Shorten nap time during the day - If the baby sleeps too much during the day, then he or she may not be able to sleep as well at night. When napping, keep the lights on and try not to give the baby any cues that it is bed time by avoiding the night routine. No need to wake the child from napping, but if conditions are brighter and a bit noisier, then the baby will probably wake up on its own.

5) Rocking - Rocking and massaging the baby can relax the child and this may be good as prelude to sleeping through the night.

6) Read a story - Read a story or spend some time with the baby before bed, instead of just dropping the baby off in the crib and leaving. This extra time will allow the baby to transition into sleep.

7) Feeding - Make sure the baby is getting good nutrition. If you must feed the baby in the middle of the night, make sure to keep the lights dim so as to not disturb the baby’s sense of time.

Make sure that it is quiet at night and that there is activity during the day. Babies need to learn the difference between night and day.

What I am talking about is what is in their mind, their strategy. Its this small pinnacle of structure that is responsible for the remaining hierarchy and structure that flows from it.

OK, I think I have described to you fairly clearly what I’m talking about, now let me tell you what it is.

Most people buy good things. They are brought up to spend their money wisely on good, not broken, perfect things. The more perfect and problem free the better. To get your money’s worth you are brainwashed to believe that an object of purchase should be imperfection free and by this measure we can gauge the value we received for our money.

Its absolutely and completely the exact opposite of what millionaires think and how they see things. 100% in reverse.

I make my money by buying problems and selling solutions.

Not just any problems because I understand there are some investment objects, some problems that cannot be fixed easily and cheaply to present a perfect product for re-sale. In these cases I take a pass. I don’t buy other people’s problems, I buy my problems. The problems I am familiar with and capable and competent of fixing.

When you buy solutions (perfect products) you pay full maximum retail price. Fine if you are buying food or certain things, however in terms of business and making big money I search for a certain type of imperfection.

This is where the spare intrinsic value resides and this is where the millions are.

Problem: Owner of 1 acre lot of land cannot afford to cover the costs of sub-division so must sell as it is because his wedding day is looming and he needs the money. Will accept 25% less then value for quick sale.

Solution: I can provide the funds because I have them. I have no urgency issues, therefore I can have all the necessary permits taken care of and extract the spare value left in the deal buy splitting the block and selling each part off.

Problem: Couple are looking for a bigger house, want to sell existing home. Couple feel low resistance to low offers because the house is unpainted and peeling. Some bits are hanging off the roof but nothing too serious and the house foundations are solid.

No other type of infrastructure was more influenced by the influx of automobiles than the gas station (also called the service station). During that time, the motorist was required to visit the local kerosene refinery found in the outskirts of the city in order to get some gasoline.

When Henry Ford perfected the mass production of cars and lowered its prices in 1908, more people started owning cars. The local hardware store or carriage maker then added gas pumps to their busy central locations in the city. This arrangement did not prove beneficial, because when cars lined up to refuel, they ended up blocking major thoroughfares.

The first gasoline station building was created to serve Kentucky’s ever growing motorists. Between 1920 and 1960, designs for these gasoline stations evolved reflecting the type of economy, the consumer’s influence and the expansion of the auto repair and service industry.

Now, gas stations are strategically located everywhere - even in the farthest deserts and along the longest highways. The United States gasoline industry is booming, now more than ever, especially because almost all households in the country use at least one car.

Enter a competition.
Get an interview.
Start an e-zine.
Get a personal website.
Pick up the phone and call old contacts.
Send out a clever “how are” you card.
Give a testimonial.
Attend a conference.

When Iowan Don Burger learned about his state’s most recent scandal - unjustly high salaries paid to publicly funded employment training administrators - he knew right away that farmers could up the ante.

The long-time advocate for black and small farm owners says that many farmers have their own stories to tell about their family farms forced into foreclosure and of bonuses made by government officials who aid in these foreclosures - the same officials presumably paid to help train family farmers to survive economic crises.

Burger is a retired U. S. Justice Department regional community relations specialist who also served as evaluation staff development officer in Washington, D.C. In 1965 the Iowan was named the first director to head the state’s first Civil Rights Commission.

But since his retirement in 1990, Burger has built a second career advocating for black small farm owners, a consulting job that has kept him busy when he is not working on civil rights projects, including recent reports of lynching.

“Until he was bumped up to a federal job in the Department of Agriculture this past month, Chris Beyerhelm, Iowa Farm Services Agency farm loan chief, according to farmers, was traveling throughout his region, providing guidance to USDA administrators on measures to expeditiously process foreclosure of farmers whose loan repayments are allegedly in arrears,” Burger said.

Beyerhelm left his state job in April, “achieving more power” when he was named assistant deputy administrator of FSA’s farm loan programs, according to Burger.

The state U. S. Department of Agriculture office confirmed Beyerhelm’s promotion.

“I think what Beyerhelm has done is even worse than CIETC’s administrators, since the FSA was founded on the intent of serving small farmers, not destroying them,” Burger said.

Burger was responding in part to a series of stories reported by the Des Moines Register involving the U.S. Department of Labor, which supplied the Central Iowa Employment and Training Consortium or CIETC with much of its funding that went to administrators salaries rather than help unemployed clients.

CIETC has come under federal investigation since a state audit released March 31 showed its three top executives collected $1.8 million in pay over a 30-month period. The events have triggered a federal audit of the nation’s 600 local work force boards.

Pete Hardin, publisher of a farming newsletter, Milkweed, that advocates for small farmers’ rights, joins Burger in assessing FSA’s role in farm foreclosures; Hardin’s publication ran an article in January of 2006 regarding the bonus payments.

“People’s jaws drop when they hear about FSA agents making bonuses for helping foreclose small farms. They have a hard time believing it,” Hardin said.

Seven years ago, black farmers won a historic settlement from the USDA for discriminatory practices. Both Burger and Hardin worked hard to help achieve this victory.

But an estimated 66,000 black farmers did not apply in time for the settlement funds and they’re still not getting treated fairly, according to Burger, who has been helping farmers in various organizations attempting to get their money.

“The original notices for application were mostly printed in inner city newspapers and those publications that routinely publish in rural releases provided by USDA were not used by the federal agency.”

And so in what has become a yearly occurrence, black farmers will make their way to Washington, D.C., April 26 to voice their displeasure once again with the way Pigford v. Johanns is being settled. All farmers are being asked to support this rally, since many other issues deal with them as well, Burger said.

“The same thing happening to black farmers is also happening to others including Hispanics, Native Americans and women.”

Burger and Hardin join with other small farm advocates who believe that a concerted effort to close down family farm operations has been in effect since 1972 when the USDA published the Young Executives Report in the June 21 Congressional Record, “a thirty-year strategic plan focused on reorganizing American agriculture to remove and replace family farms with corporate farming to supposedly make the United States more competitive.”

At the time, the report was titled, “US Dept of Agriculture Young Executive Committee Plan to Abolish Farms Support Program; New Directions for U.S. Agricultural Policy.”

“Some have describe the plan as Orwellian,” Burger said, giving as example “a most recent incarnation of one of their proposals to implant computer chip transponders in beef, pork, goat, dairy cows, turkey, chickens - all farm produced agricultural food livestock.”

Even the adversarial New York attorney general Elliott Spitzer recently joined the fray, speaking before the National Farm Family Coalition on corporate farming strategies.

Spitzer promised the group he would keep a close eye on the trend toward ever-fewer market players.

“The notion that small farms have an inadequate voice in the industry is especially troubling … whether it be on the Wall Street trading floors or in the barns and farms of Upstate New York, fundamental fairness must be maintained in order for markets to operate efficiently,” Spitzer said.

Burger, Hardin and other black and small farm advocates have noticed that small farmers of all color are being drawn together in the fight to keep their land and acquire the money they believe is due them.

“Even Amish farmers are being impacted and this speaks to freedom of religion issues,” Hardin said.

Meanwhile in Iowa, Federal investigators have launched an investigation into salaries paid at job-training programs nationwide as they respond to the financial scandal at the central Iowa publicly funded agency.

Burger’s response?

“I can only hope the inquiry extends to their reports of bonus payments for FSA farm loan administrators, as well, where the issue is over payments of bonuses attributed to farm foreclosure activities.”

In the first part of this series, we looked at researching keywords on Overture. The next stage is to put these keywords into the Google search engine and see what sort of competition you are likely to have in each particular area.

Checking “gardening” provides 43,700,000 websites and, by comparison, the keywords “organic vegetable gardening” (which had 555 searches on Overture) provides 2,120,000 sites.

Take a look at the top ten websites in each category and see what sort of products they are offering, as well as the level of prices. This should give you some idea of the level of profits being generated in this sector.

Also start to think about how you can add your own unique twist to a possible product. You not only want to be the best in your category, you also want to be different.

The way to do this is to play “what if”. For example, if you come across an e-book on a particular aspect you feel is a good niche market, consider how you might come at the same market from a different angle, with a different product.

For example, instead of simply offering another e-book, consider combining it with a DVD. This sets you apart from the competition and the higher perceived value of the book/DVD combo gives you scope to lift yourself out of the simple one off book category into the realms of a course.

Because you’re not selling to a mass market, you must strive for a substantial per capita sale value. Selling a course, rather than a one off book, is an ideal way to do this. You could enhance this further with an instantly downloadable e-book or course module, following on with a printed workbook version (punched pages in a binder plus the DVD) in the mail.

Provided you’re well organised and well disciplined, you can write just the first module of the course, initially. Writing a fresh module each month thereafter.

Your final task in this research stage should be to visit organic gardening forums. Your mission here is threefold.

• To check the level of current interest in the particular niche you might now be coming to consider as a contender.
• Find out what subjects interest these groups, in particular the problems they have. Always bear in mind you are first and foremost a problem solver.
• Later, when your niche website is up and running, you’ll want to start answering questions posted by other members of the forum, so the readers will perceive you as very knowledgeable on the subject.

  For now, read what others have to say to get a “feel” for the protocol of each particular forum. Then, when you start to do your own posts replying to queries, you will slip seamlessly into the “voice” of that particular forum.

The head collar has become an increasingly popular dog training tool in the past couple of years. Two of the most well known brands of head collar on the market are the Gentle Leader and the Halti, but there are many other brands that incorporate the basic head collar concept.

Many people find the Gentle Leader easier to fit that the Halti, and in addition the Gentle Leader is designed to fasten around the dog’s neck. The advantage of this design is that even if the dog is somehow able to wriggle out of the muzzle, it is still wearing a collar. This safety feature is very important, especially during training outside or in novel situations. On the other hand, the Halti offers better control of the dog, and for this reason it is often favored when working with very aggressive dogs.

Training a dog with a head collar has a number of advantages over training with a traditional or training collar. For one thing, head collars are often easier to use for beginning dog trainers than are training collars. Head collars are also quite effective at preventing dogs from pulling, or controlling and retraining dogs that tend to pull.

Head collars can also be quite effective at controlling dogs in difficult situations, such as controlling a dog that wants to be with other dogs. Most owners know of some situations in which their dogs are difficult to control, and head collars can be quite effective at controlling these volatile situations.

Head collars can be excellent for controlling dogs that are very strong, or for working with a dog in an area that contains a great many distractions. For instance, head collars are great for when your dog is on an outing, or in an area where there will be other dogs and other distractions.

Even though a head collar can be a great tool, it should not be used as a replacement for effective dog training. A head collar is most effective when it is used in combination with strong and sensible dog training methods, such as reward training and other forms of positive reinforcement.

Disadvantages of head collars

Even though head collars have many advantages, they have some distinct disadvantages as well. For one thing, head collars tend to make many dogs dependent on the equipment, and they quickly learn the difference between their regular collar and the head collar, and adjust their behavior accordingly.

In addition, some dogs, particularly those not accustomed to wearing a head collar, dislike wearing it and paw at it, try to rub it off or pull excessively. If your dog exhibits this behavior, the best strategy is to keep it moving until it learns to accept the collar. A good alternative is to have the dog sit by pulling up on the dog’s head.

Another disadvantage of the head collar is the reaction that many people have to it. Many people think that a head collar is a muzzle, and react to the dog as if it may bite. While this is not necessarily a defect of the head collar, many people do find it troublesome.

In conclusion, training with a head collar is much like training with a training collar or any other equipment.
